Bonny and Read
Character Study
In the early 18th century (1700s), Anne Bonny and Mary “Mark” Read meet on Calico Jack’s Ship when Mary is taken prisoner. Anne dresses as a woman and tries to seduce Mary (dressed as a man) for information. Mary bares her chest and asks Anne to keep her secret, wherein their friendship, or romantic relationship begins.
Jack becomes jealous and barges in on them together, so they have to divulge Mary’s secret to prove that Anne is not cheating on Jack (but kinda is). Piracy and hijinks continue until they are captured by the governor and put on trial for piracy.
